The weekend before last I hired myself a 125cc Honda Self-Auto motorbike. I spent most of Saturday learning how not to kill myself on the damn thing. It was very light and had a surprising bit of pull to it. With words from a close friends dad ringing in my ears about the dangers of two wheeled transport, I was pretty nervous about riding around roads with next to no traffic laws upheld. That soon wore off with the exhilaration of riding around Mactan Island for a few hours
The following day myself and three of the guys from bigfoot rode the 75Km journey to Kawasan Falls. A trio of crystal blue waterfalls near the northern coast line of Cebu. The ride took us nearly 8 hours both ways. Weaving through jungle roads, paddy fields with white shacks propped above them and small villages where the children would hover over you whilst you eat to gather the leftovers. It was like a spacious version of Bohol. Elliot bought his handy little GoPro video camera and captured some great footage riding through the varying backdrops of the island. We arrived at the falls and met the others from Bigfoot who had opted for the safer (and much faster) option of a van.
The waters were a cold electric blue with a temperature to match! The waterfall plunged it's white tail into the small amass of water we found ourselves paddling around in. Swimming under the white water rushing from high above was a surprising experience. Looking very graceful as it fell, the water had an incredible weight pushing deep into the cool waters back into the shallow depths
Riding back from the falls we were once again plunged into darkness. Just like in Bohol we were driving along dark roads, riddled with potholes and having to cope with confusing traffic decisions by other motorists. However, being on a bike made it much easier. No tinted front windows, no pillars in the way and had 4 headlights instead of 1.5 which made life much easier. Although Fred only found his light switch two hours after the sun had made it's grand exit. One flat tyre and one minor accident we were safe and sound in our rock solid beds in Bigfoot. And my god were we happy to be vertical!
Now, on Thursday the 27th of October, I am only looking forward to two things. One, going diving with my new waterproof GoPro HD camera, hopefully in preparation to dive in Oz with my old man (who thinks he can survive a 24 plane ride but not a 30 minute dive, which tickles me slightly). And two, the imminent arrival of my long lost girlfriend, Isabelle
I will put some videos up from the GoPro as soon as I can! In the mean time, here is Elliot's video of our two wheeled adventures....
