Bob - Today was an emergence into the city of Florence. We had a nice breakfast on teh terrace and left for our adventure at 9:00 am sharp. The city was alive with comuters dashiong to and fro. I noticed that many of the side roads were packed with scooters which easly outnumbered cars. Scooter parking is art a premium as they were parked side by side like closely spaced diminoes.
as we trked across town to our first napointment , It was clear to me that the "personal space" so many Americans are use to does not exist in Florance. People, and scooters, came within a hairs width quite often of each other. I was like Manhattan, only closer.
We saw several amazing art works of sculptors and painting. Though I should have paid more attetnion in art history class, I was struck by the evolution of painting during the early and later stages of the Renaissance
We had a great lunch after a "dry run" to garden on the other side of town. we trekked all the way ov er the impressive location only to find we could not have our picnic -- bummer we lost about an hour. as is our custom in Florance, we shared a half bottle of wine on The terrace in The late afternoon listening to the church bells...very nice.
Maryellen -Dinner was at one of the places the hotel recommended, I 4 Teony, truly of the beaten path. We split bruchetta which was good, but we both remarked that is was not as good as the bruchetta made by NJ/VA Itaklian Maria McCarthy! I had gnocci and Bob had lasagne. Both were fabulous! setting was private , quiet and nice!
So many of our friends/family have commented on how they wished they were with us. Guess what? We do too! So, come on we all have to plan together our next adventure: I would love Krackow, Bob wants Dundalk, we are taking suggestions and travel partners! Life is so short, so let's visit where we want!
Tomorrow, we leave Florence, rent a car, and drive the Chianti Road to Sienna!
