This morning, we got up early for our first day of skiing in Austria.  We took a ski bus transfer from Viehhoff (our town) to Vorderglemm and took the gondola Schonlentebahn.  Vorderglemm is just the beginning of a very large and long valley that consist of Saalbach and Hinterglemm.  You can actually do a 'ski circus', where you start from a point and ski across one side of an entire valley and then 'walk across then street and ski back the entire other side of the valley!  (see picture)

Every morning, two people are assigned breakfast duty.  This morning, Elahe (later we nick named Martha Stewart) made us Frittatas.... Seriously?  how are we suppose to follow this act? :)  It was so yummy.

In the morning, we made a few runs on Schonleiten, Magic  chair, Panorama chair, and Kohlmaisgipfelbahn.  The lift varied quite a bit from a 2 person chair lift that looks like it has been there since the early 1900's to a 8 person chair that is sponsored by 'Porche" with heated seats, automatic bar and moving belts!   The Gondola also varied from a 4 person one that is so old it doesn't even have space to hold snowboards.  The fat skis also did not fit in the ski slots and the seat cover looks like 60's carpet :)  haa haa  But there were also Trams that were recently installed that held over 150 people!

It snowed this morning.  We were excited but we had no idea this would be the last time we see snowfall for the week.....   Day 1 of skiing also included little mishaps.  Yvonne face planting after the first turn (Bong sharpened her edges on her snowboard), Ray lost his glove off the chairlift (forgot to put the 'idiot strap' on),  Mary left her poles in a gondola (thought she was snowboarding or something...), Job took a really hard fall where he even bruised his ribs causing pain on inhalation (He was trying out his new alpine board).

We took a lunch break at Saalbach.  Food was quite decent but service was HORRIBLE!!!  The guy was quite rude.  When we were missing one of our order (a goulash soup), he looked in his handheld and replied, "computer says NO".  Then at the end, they charged us for the soup.... Errrrrrr.....  But this was pretty much the service you get in Austria.

We took a few more runs after lunch and quite a few people called it for the day but half of the group was still too excited to be skiing in Austria for the first time so decided to do a few more runs!  The ski group got in the gondola and realized we were all Asian.. hmmm   And then decided it must be because we all had 'Tiger moms' from the article "Why Chinese moms are superior". Haa haa haa... (Bong is Korean, but decided he is Chinese or hijacked by Tiger kids..)

Dinner was cooked by Job/Mary and Cory/Troy.  We pretty much made pasta in various shapes and forms.. :)
