This weekend I went back again to see the host family because they were killing their pig. This is the pig they've been taking care of for over a year and will provide all their meat for the winter. It's a huge deal, where the whole extended family gets together. In Bulgarian it's called a pork wedding because of the whole family getting together. It's lots of work. The men have all the cool jobs, basically burning the flesh, scraping it off, then cutting up the whole pig, and doing other cool gross stuff like squeezing out and cleaning the intestines. The women's jobs include serving them hot rakia and start cooking as soon as there's meat to cook. The whole process took about 4 hours. About an hour later we ate a ton, and about 6 hours after that we ate a ton again. And again the next day. I don't think I've ever eaten so much.
