At the back of this, a short distance away was the palace where the President lives. It was a beautiful French Colonial building. Unfort I had left my camera in the bus, Hai advising us to not take them in, coz the officials don't like it., So no photos of this bit and it looked beautiful through the trees. Then we walked through a lovely forest of trees to a lake, on the banks is a simple wooden house on stilts where Ho Chi Minh lived for the latter part of the war.
After that we went to the One Pillar Pagoda, a simple wooden structure ontop of a single stone pillar
For lunch we went to the KOTO restaurant. This place trains former street kids in the restaurant business, and the food was so good. The drink we all had was the best ever, something with passionfruit in it. Yum !!!
This was time to get to know the others in the Perigrine group. There are 4 of us, 3 women and 1 man. Me, Suzanne, Kimberly and Roland. All Aussies and we all seem to be around the same age, and well travelled. Our guide is called Hai, pronounced Hi and is very nice. Also saw the 'Hanoi Hilton' gaol and the Temple of Literature, ( the first university in VietNam to train scholar mandarins ), built in the 11 centuary by LA1/2 Dynasty.
All in all a great day.
