As if this isn’t enough, the Opera House is having an open day also, with free tours all day, and fun stuff on the plaza. I had signed up for priority passes for the Opera House, but couldn’t print anything but as usual the Aussies are accommodating and gave me another pass which entitled us to the VIP line. People started queuing and we were able to go through all parts of the complex, including backstage and practice areas FREE. We do love the Aussies! Because of the odd shapes, many of the inner rooms are differently shaped also. We saw all three performance venues, for opera, for symphony and for drama. Performances have been sold out for months, but we’ll do that next time. Check out the purple carpet in the bar, really gets your attention! As we exited it was starting to sprinkle a bit, but we headed to the Botanical Gardens for a stroll. The sky darkened, and the rain got heavier and stronger. We reached Government House and decided to take the guided tour, hopefully outlasting the rain. The tour was interesting but no photos were allowed. We had our Australian history lesson about family crests and many portraits of governors etc. Our guide obviously enjoyed his work! When we exited it was still pouring and now thundering and lightning, but we made it back to the Harbour and under cover. We found a bus to return us to Central Station, bought yet another suitcase and uneventfully returned to the hotel to pack up. Can hardly believe that tomorrow we leave. What seems really weird is that we’ve lost the entire month of October. When we left Michigan it was warm, but now, who knows? Back to the hotel to weigh the luggage. G’day for now.
