I never expected my first travel blog to be just a 15 minute train journey from where I (partly) grew up. I am sitting in Croydon, ten or so miles from the lil country village Woldingham on the North Downs.

It came about because I bought a ticket that cut departing on the truck too fine in regards to arrival in London Kings X so I decided to change it (losing 50% of what it cost!). Though on changing it I got muddled and bought an anger inducing day-too-early ticket. So instead of losing another small fortune I decided to take advantage of this mishap and visit my old house, lovingly named 'Keramos' (not a patch on Hapland though). I grew up here until I was 13 years old (1997) which was when my family moved back to Scotland.

It was strange walking around Woldingham as everything wasn't as spaced out as it seemed when I was a kid Truck!

 . For example the hike from the station was now a mere 10 minute walk and the forest was now a wood. After a walk to my old house and lunch in the chalk pit riddled woods I headed back to London.

Was a very nice start to my trip. Even had a holiday feel to it what with the shorts and T-shirt weather here (I got a little sun burnt today!).

I am off for drinks with the people I will be spending the next 7 months with now. From meeting them a few months ago I know they are a lovely bunch. And then tomorrow we leave for Dover at 9am.

Needless to say I am ridiculously excited.
