Grameen Fisheries manages over 600 fishery ponds in Bangladesh.  In 1986 a high official of the Bangladesh government went to Professor Yunus asking that he and Grameen take over the fisheries that had become badly deteriorated and the government could not fix the problems due to corruption in the Bangladesh government.

Three thousand five hundred workers, organized into Grameen Style solidarity groups provide the labor for the fishery and the workers in turn share the profits of the fishery.

Ten Biogas Plants have been created next to the ponds which take cow dung and convert it into biogas with the waste being converted into high quality fertilizer that is then deposited into the ponds which in turn nourishes the vegetation in the ponds which in turn provides nutritional food for the fish.

My friend Khalid Shams was an integral part of the creation of this business for Grameen and the poor.
