For this program to reach the gigantic scale in the objective it will take a spectacular effort and dedication on many people and organizations - including some who are reading this. It seems to me that TERI, an independent institute, under the leadership of Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Pachauri (with the credibility that that awards adds to this program) has the potential to integrate and catalyze the many diverse efforts that so many are doing in the solar energy field. TERI and the LABL program could provide the necessary impartial test bed that will provide documented information to all who are interested and allow the many groups that are doing testing to focus their efforts on implementation. Vendor/Partners will have the opportunity to learn from these results and produce better solutions at lower prices - elements that are key if the 1 billion lights goal is to be actually achieved.
I have included on the distribution of these two blogs associated with the program:
Dr. Walter Kohn, email@example.com - Walter Kohn - Nobel Prize Chemistry - 1998. Walter is professor-emeritus at the University of California at Santa Barbara (walking distance from my home) and has produced an excellent video The Power of the Sun - by Walter Kohn
Shuji Nakamura firstname.lastname@example.org - Shuji is also a professor at UCSB and was the inventor of the LED while he was in Japan. Shuji Nakamura in Time Magazine Shuji continues to work on next generation LED's.
Matt Tirrell email@example.com - Matt is Dean of the Engineering School at UCSB and is particularly focused at integrating technology with sound business practices.
Dave Irvine-Halliday firstname.lastname@example.org was founder and visionary of Light Up The World Foundation and is a Professor at Calgary University. Here is an article on Dave. LUTW Foundation is providing solar/led solutions in many areas of the world.
For those who want to enter into contact with TERI - the initial contact person is Namarata Kala at email@example.com She was my wonderful host during the visit.
In closing - I would like to share my appreciation of Suri Penurolu Suri@microsolinternational.com who is the CEO and Founder of Microsol International a Solar Cell Manufacturer - headquartered in Hyderabad, India and manufacturing in Dubai. Verghese of Byrraju Foundation introduced me to Suri at a club that they are both members of in Hyderabad. After spending a half hour with Suri and telling him about what I am involved with - he told me that I must meet a friend of his - Dr. Pachauri and work together with him and his organization. He suggested that I use his name when asking for an appointment. Vikash, also using his own contacts, succeeded in setting up the meeting with TERI and it wound up working at a time the Dr. Pachauri could see me.
That's a lot of amazing circumstances, which I am honored and delighted to have been a part of. This is a tremendous program - and it would please me if any of you reading this blog will find something of use to you and that you in turn can become a part of achieving the goal of "Lighting a Billion Lives".
Please network directly among yourselves. Please keep me informed and let me know if there is any way I can help.
