The taxi driver at the airport became my driver for the day on business, then a quick tour of Jaipur in the late afternoon, checked me into the hotel that one of my business hosts had suggested and then the next day was my driver to go from Jaipur to Agra. He spoke reasonable English, was a good guide and oversaw all of my selections of guides, being sure that I wasn't taken advantage of, etc. It was nice to be able to be relaxed for awhile relative to transportation. His total cost for the two days and 200 mile trip was $125. Once in Agra he took me to the Taj Mahal and then checked me in to the hotel here.
My favorite hotel on the trip (in these photos) was the one in Jaipur, which was also the cheapest - $32 a night
Internet has been a significant cost and I have spent a lot of time just trying to get on the various internet systems. I have paid $8 per day for unlimited internet and today I have had to go to another hotel (I have not been able to connect in this hotel) and am paying $2 per hour.
It is excruciatingly hot here in Agra - the hottest I have encountered.
I have watched both Obama and McCain's Convention speeches, much of the U.S. Open Tennis and much of CNN in its various International versions.
The floods in India are in North East India - where I had been scheduled to go about now - but came off of my schedule first due to social unrest in Assam.
Many of the women look like they are ready to go to the grand ball in the United States where they will stand out as being the most elegantly dressed. The photo on this blog shows such a women riding side saddle on the back of her husband's motorcycle - with her husband looking like he is going to a bikers convention.
Here are links to two of the places that you will see in the pictures that go along with this blog.
Keoladeo National Park - Bird and Wildlife Refuge
