Marty Blog on HMRI
Satyam is a very large and successful Software Company with 55,000 employees and providing software development to companies all over the world.
B. Ramalinga Raju, who I met briefly at the HMRI - 104 major announcement is the Founder and Chairman of this company that is also the parent of the four other companies (listed above) that serve Andhra Pradesh and India and are expanding into helping bring social solutions to the world. Satyam and Raju are world leaders in Corporate Social Responsibility - CSR. When Raju's father died, he and his brothers created Byrraju Foundation and moved to make a difference in India and the world through Byrraju and Satyam's three other organizations. Much of the money that funds these operations comes from Raju's and his brother's inheritance (a smaller part) and Raju's personal financial accumulation from Satyam Computer Services.
Raju focuses on transformational change rather than incremental change. He is interested in saving 1,000,000 lives rather than on business or software.
The technology that drives all of these programs is the creation of Satyam and its companies.
Raju was listed in Forbes Magazine's list of the richest people in India.
Additional profile information on Raju can be found here.
For those who would like to see a one hour video of Raju providing an overview of the Satyam Corporate Social Responsibility programs and a presentation of the EMRI emergency system - click on this link This video is over two years old and most of the numbers have subsequently doubled.
It appears to me that Satyam and its companies led by Raju are the world leaders in the areas that they serve - particularly their Medical Programs.
I am telling the story of Satyam and its organizations in an order that hopefully will flow easily for the reader. The actual sequence of events was quite different.
I met Verghese, head of Byrraju Foundation one Saturday in Hyderabad. It turned out to be a short - one hour meeting, because of complications with my auto rickshaw, cell phone problems, power failure, etc. After spending an hour hearing Verghese's story of Byrraju I was most impressed and he asked me to spend four days including a train trip to visit their programs in remote villages with them. I was able to schedule in two days. The evening of the first day I was given an invitation to attend a major announcement of the new HMRI Medical system in a five star hotel with great security and press - which I was delighted to accept. The Chairman of Satyam, Raju, was one of three key speakers (including the Health Minister of the State). After that presentation. Verghese introduced me to Raju and in the two minutes of conversation it was very clear that Raju is a very humble and great visionary. After that meeting, Verghese introduced me to the head of Satyam Foundation and the head of the HMRI Mission Control - both of which insisted that I set aside a day to visit their operations - which I was most delighted to do.
I hope you will visit the four other blogs on the various Satyam Social Programs.
I hope that these blogs come even close to adequately describing these incredible people and organizations.
