Arriving at the international terminal in Jakarta late at night, our flight to Jogyakarta was not due to leave from a different terminal until 6 am. We ended up joining with Cornelia, Chris (a Canadian), Darius and Lydia (two Poles living in Holland - who were amazed that Martyn had been to their hometown of Lodz, pronounced Wodge) in sharing a taxi at 1 am for the 4 minutes journey to the new terminal 3 ……… only to be told by the security guards at arrivals that as the x-ray at the departures entrance was already closed, while we ourselves could wait in the air conditioned terminal, ALL of our luggage would have to stay outside (not an option!).
After our debating what to do for ten minutes and getting ready for 3 hours sitting on the pavement, one of those (exceptionally generous) guards came out and told us that they would hand search all of our bags so that we could wait inside ……. he was nearly trampled in the rush! We were soon settling down on benches on the upper level for a few hours shut eye – big rooms in this hostel and shared bathroom; we didn’t care, it had air-con, was far better than the pavement and was free.
Everyone's alarm went off at 6 am and we packed up, washed and checked in for Jogya. Air Asia were great once again with a very comfortable on time flight.
