About noon we set off for Charleston down US-17 which was very pretty. After about an hour we came across Hampton - a state plantation set up by descendents of French Hugenots sent over from England in the 1600s.
It was an interesting place made entertaining by the excellent Bessie Thomas who took a small party of visitors round the mansion. The place was surrounded by mosquitoes and we incurred some bites walking back to the car.
We found our BW in Charleston very easily and settled in to update the blog and watch Ahmadinejad speak to the UN with those guardians of free speech, the US, not attending
The other wonderful story is how the americans are trying to blame China for producing" dangerous" toys and proposing boycotting Chinese goods - where the real story is that the american companies were the ones who specified the materials and production. the Chinese companies just did what their american buyers told them to do!!
Wierd thing is that so many commentators and writers to newspapers seem to understand all these issues including the fact that americans are consuming more than they are earning - but their government seems paralysed about doing anything about it.
