Set off in cloudy weather and after a trip to Wal-Mart and a Starbucks coffee breakfast we headed north east up I-75 in what turned out to be prolonged heavy rain where you could just about make out the vehicle ahead thru the rain and spray. Once off the Interstate we followed a dual carriageway thru pretty hilly, wooded scenery towards Pigeon Forge. We were expecting this sleepy town in the Smokey Mountains - what we got was Vegas Baby!! The main street is full of neon lights, old renovated cars and Dollywood. I know - it's a travesty amongst all this scenic beauty, but the busty beauty has a theme park here and the low-end tacky stuff has followed the "front-end tacky stuff" into the town. Yuck!

We drove onto Gatlinburg which has a ski-resort feeling and is much nicer and found the cabin rental place where the very nice Kristy gave us our key and directions which were back towards the plastic Pigeon Forge.

We got some provisions and then set off, about 3 miles out of Gatlinburg we entered the Smokey Mountains National Park and turned left up this narrow road to this AMAZING cabin with a wooden deck that looks out over the forest. It is incredibly peaceful and we have learnt that it is possible to take a "holiday from a holiday". We've no idea how they got planning permission to build this here but we're glad they did.

We have an open plan lounge/kitchen with loads of space and a pool table at one end, a separate bedroom and bathroom plus excellent views. It is so nice not to be cramped in a low-ceilinged dismal motel room. Outside the deck has a 4 person hot-tub with swirling 102F water.

We stripped and enjoyed the tub over-looking the forest. The Smokey Mountains got their name from the could effect that produces lots of clouds sitting in the forest which makes it look like there are a mass of small bonfires. Wonderful fairy tales scenery.

#We feasted on a excellent salmon meal prepared by the Munchie which MJ declared to be the best meal of the trip so far. We are very happy here.
