Our first stop was a Waffle House on Hwy 71 where we got a freshly cooked breakfast and good service - the first and only such place we can say that of Fort Smith. It was hot and slightly humid as we set off into the tree-clad hills of the Ouachita Mountains - the route took us past many scattered shacks and scenery much like England. We'd planned to stop along the way but nothing really took our fancy and we ended up at Hot Springs about 3pm which has loads of spa bath-houses along then main street and one majestic looking hotel but otherwise is nothing special.
We drove south along Hwy 7 towards the lake and found a BW looking much like the dump Days Inn from last night who wanted $75 for a poor location. Eventually we came across Baymont Hotel overlooking Hamilton Lake which is ideallic for $100 but well worth it. We've got a great room with good internet and TV with movies at only $9 PLUS a view of the lake
It is getting very southern weather - 90F plus humid, so we took our now regular siesta followed by some pool time. There is a wooden dock around a small habour by the hotel with ducks and other birds - but what was really cute is these turtles that live here and come over in search of food.
The room was so nice that we order pizza (via internet) and watched a film with Clive Owen called "Children of Men" which looked promising but was kinda nothing in the end.
We are bored of traveling now and doesn't look like there are many more sights to see on the way back to Florida - so the whole thing has become an elongated holiday (as long as we don't find anymore Ft Smiths).
