We stopped off in a small town called XXX - it was DEAD, but interesting just to see what small town America is like down here.
We took lunch in a place called Erick in a plastic diner with the thinnest coffee imaginable and an excellent sandwich - the town was dead again
A little further on we found Elk City which has a reasonable "museum" - a mocked up town with 3 museums, one of which remembers the old Route 66 which went from Chicago to LA - we've been running along it as we've traveled I-40. The Interstate has affected a lot of the small towns along the way which are now by-passed. Oklahoma doesn't quite grab us the way other areas/histories have but there was enough to see.
Drive, drive, drive always east (280 miles today - but Interstate) with not much to report - found BW ok. The hotel is brand new (been open 2 months) and we've got a suite for which we paid nothing, we've been earning points in all the BW and we've traded them in for this brill room for two nights. Oklahoma City looks very large - almost as tho' the entire state has moved here and left the remainder of the land empty.
We google-mapped the nearest Texas Roadhouse which was only 2 miles down the road where we had an excellent waitress called Monica who had worked for them for 5 years and wouldn't stop talking (which was ok actually). Seems as tho' they give zippo paid vacation time in the restuarant trade albeit that the hours are flexible and you can take time off (if you can afford it....which you can't of course).
Excellent CNN documentary about the fascist religious right in America who look not much different to the Taliban - it's amazing how all these people seem to think that "God" wants them to do (or not do) something. So the Muslim woman seems to think that God wants her to wear a veil and the Christian God wants to ban homosexuality and abortion, one young kid is sure that "God" wants him to have home schooling. Maybe there is a God - but we need to make sure he's not just your prejudices in disguise.
