A day in the car traveling thru endless flat scrub which got worse when we got into Texas - endless land and only a very few cattle - it was all so boring can't even remember where we had lunch.
Just before Amarillo we passed by a place called Bushland - but didn't stop. We also passed a place where there were 6 Cadillacs half-buried nose first - but I'm not sure if this is the original or a copy (update>> apparantly it is the original - it's called Cadillac Ranch)
We found the Baymont hotel very easily which is an excellent hotel and were welcomed by a lovely Mexican/Indian receptionist. An hour was spent by the large outdoor pool reading and sunbathing. The room was spacious and we watched A Bronx Tale on TV. We knew there was a Texas Roadhouse a few blocks further on and took our evening meal there
The waitress told us there really wasn't anything much to do in Amarillo - when we asked her where she'd go she told us San Antonio about 9 hours drive away....which I guess pretty much sums up Texas.
More TV in the late evening - an excellent documentary on CNN (for a change) about Muslim religious groups. We're feeling pretty good at the moment - a combination of good hotel room, excellent steaks and reasonable weather.

The open road in New Mexico
. It was as good as we'd expected maybe even better - excellent steaks and large beers - all for $31 bucks before tip.The waitress told us there really wasn't anything much to do in Amarillo - when we asked her where she'd go she told us San Antonio about 9 hours drive away....which I guess pretty much sums up Texas.
