MJ down the gym for a few minutes - yuck! We set off back eastwards towards the Rockies to find Hwy 285 where we found the climb much easier in our 5.3L vehicle. The road lasts about 60 miles through pine-clad mountains and after about 40 miles reaches this high grassland plateau with a few ranches of cattle. Absolutely beautiful and we'd put the road in our top five.
We were going to stop in South Park - but it didn't seem much of a place so we ended up driving 3 hours and 150 miles directly to Selida and a nice Super 8 motel. We took out cases to the room and then set off for the quaint old downtown - it has the headwaters of the Arkansas River running through it and on a sunny Sunday afternoon up in the Rockies at 7,000 ft it was wonderful. It probably deserves a single night at the present stage of our journey but as a place to escape to as part of a 3 week vacation it deserves more.
We stock up on a few things for a late lunch in Safeway and then slobbed around in the room watching Alan Ladd in Badlanders.
