The night was very stuffy and we woke feeling really groggy - combination of altitude, heat and stuffy room. Breakfast was nothing special and soon thereafter we left for Yosemite driving north back up Rt395 heading off at Vin Rising.
The road up to Yosemite climbs from 7,000ft to 10,000ft on a very steep gradient built by the Civil Conservation Corp in the 30's to help find work after the depression. The road seems to just cling onto the side of this huge mountain.The car suffered badly as there is no oxygen so it needed second gear to stop from going backwards!!
Yosemite is amazing - this pine forest up in the mountains with bare rocks all around. We found the visitor centre and got directed to the Dome Mountain Trail which took us to the top of this barren rock. It was a beautiful trail through the forest with a lake along the way. Very empty....we felt we had the place to ourselves altho' we met a few folks along the way.

After a 3 hr walk we got back to the car park and had lunch before heading further into Yosemite past another amazing lake with this HUGE mountain backdrop.
We had an excellent day and can really recommend Yosemite - we never even got to the main tourist area closer to the west entrance, we'll save that for next time.
