Sunny skies and a breakfast of coffee and pasties over-looking the Pacific from the motel lobby.

We headed back north a few miles to look at a couple of camps - the first was an independent called Greenacres. It was awful - RV's close together and tents mixed in. We saw a shower as the door was open and it had rust streaks running under the shower head. We didn't even stop >> just drove straight out.

A little further out we came across the State Park but it had "Campground Full" on the sign. We drove in anyway and found that they have "walk-ins" - 10 tent sites which you can't reserve. We got a really nice one which was a good size with the beach about 250yd away and set up the tent.

We then headed for the town and found out all about its history as a logging town for redwoods. The road outside our motel yesterday was initially a rail track and then later a logging road. There is a huge log outside the guest-house museum that started growing circa 100 AD - the idiots cut it down of course.

We headed back to the camp and went to the beach with our canvas chairs - planned to read but MJ ended up just staring at the surf which was pretty wild at times.

Late afternoon we went back into town and Starbucks to plan out new route - we're now going to head east from Santa Fe and spend the last two weeks in a 2-bed appt in Florida with pool....so if anyone wants a cheap holiday in October on the Gulf Coast you'd be very welcome.

Unfortunately some 60 year-old man came and sat with us and later started a conversation....the aim of which appeared to be to verbally attack us for being European and always relying on the US to save us. He was educated and we were trying to have a reasonable conversation with him to find middle ground but whilst he wasn't barmy he definitely had problems with his father being killed in WWII. Chrissy battled on but eventually we had to leave as it became more of a rant against us as examples of Europeans. Very upsetting - not dangerous or anything but we felt under attack anyway.

In the evening we found the "Grill and Tap Room" of the local brewery where MJ got hold of his standard sampler - with two amazing ales, one of which was 11%. Yummy.

We both couldn't get to sleep albeit that the pee-run at 2am gave us the most AMAZING sight of the STARS. There are 1000's of them up there and they are so BRIGHTcompared with what I've seen before.
