Another sunny day and once packed a trip back to the airport Alamo service centre and they were expecting us!! Dave took the car away and was back in 10 mins - which makes you wonder how much UK garages must make on these things. We'd seen a sign to a Zoo coming into Omaha and having seen enough museums and Lewis&Clark stuff thought that might make a nice 2 hour break before we headed north to Sioux City. Five hours later we left after an excellent zoo trip - way better than anything I've seen before. We nearly didn't go in as there were approx 2 million kids there, school buses, moms with strollers - the lot. Seems like it was a special day whereby loads of schools etc came to this zoo. We thought it would be packed but the place was HUGE. It had everything - giraffe, apes, lions, tigers, pumas, elephants, sea-lions, a monkey island, everything.
After that we drove on up I-29 North towards Sioux City through more water-logged fields which seemed odd as it was blazing sun at 86F. At one point the highway went down to one lane as the other lane was pure mud. Apparantly St Louis may now be in danger of some flooding.
Usual stop at McDonalds for a late lunch - there are lots of them, they are very cheap and the food is ok. I had a chicken wrap and the best strawberry milkshake I've ever had, Chris had a coffee and a Fish O'Fillet - all for $7.
As always, finding the hotel couldn't have been simpler - the signage is always excellent. It does a free cocktail each at 5.30pm so I've got to finish now to dash off to try them. Apparently they are $1 thereafter - so they are either gonna be awful or it's a ploy to get businessmen to stay here with the company paying for the room. I'll tell you tomorrow.
