An easy 130 mile drive west along Highway 10 to Baton Rouge with a short stop at Covington to experience a "small town", with a six-lane highway down to it!!
We found the historic district and a lovely, old high-ceilinged coffee shop where we took our coffees outside and watched world go by at the cross-roads. We found a huge book shop where I bought another copy of War & Peace (had to leave my copy at home for weight reasons) and a book on the building of the original trans-continental railroad - seems it was basically a huge scam by the owners of the two companies building it at the expense of the American people - but it did go on to open the nation.
We're on the west bank of the Mississipi near Port Allen - which is a real port and hence fairly horrible really. The weather closed in yesterday and we had huge thunderstorms - so we stayed in and had a Domino's Pizza and Bud watching "Catwoman" on TV. Not a good hotel tonight - we'd pre-booked it and it's right next to Interstate 10 and somewhat dated.
We're heard all about von Pierer and Klaus Kleinfeld at Siemens resigning and that can't be good news can it? Oh well.
We're planning to see an original plantation today south of here and then follow the Mississipi northward for a few miles - heading for Memphis to see Graceland later in the week. No piccies today as we haven't seen much worth taking.
