Last night's meal was nothing special and as it didn't seem to save us anything we're back to steak houses tonight.
Excellent day today with only 100 miles travelled and all "West on 10" - in other words Interstate, so very easy driving.
We stopped off at Mobile, AL to visit the USS Alabama - a WWII battleship which commenced building in Feb 1940 and finished in Mar 1942. It held a crew of 2,500 and saw service in Atlantic protecting conveys north of Scotland and then later in the Pacific (which it got to via the Panama Canal - which seems amazing). There was also a WWII submarine there which was interesting - seemed very cozy.

And we did find a possible replacement vehicle for a trip to New Orleans.
We saw loads of damaged miliary planes on our arrival and assumed they had been given to the museum to renovate - but leaving the place we realised they had been trashed by Katrina - the most amazing picture was of an armoured personnal carrier which had been blown off its concrete stand. Now these things are solid metal - I don't reckon 100 men could pull it along, shows you the power of a hurricane.
Captain Birdseye (now without beard)
Now we're in a BW near Biloxi planning to visit the beach resort tonight - spent late afternoon round the pool which we had to ourselves in 80F sunny skies.

Maybe we can go to New Orleans after all?

love the pictures
great to see all the photos you've added to the site. I'm trying to explain to mum how she can get this as an RSS feed - so far she's only managed to read about you in Orlando!
