Be real nice to hear from y'all - feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with all your news
We're in Pensacola FL in a brand new Best Western hotel called The Blue Angels 'cos the town is the base for the Angels (they are the naval aviation's equivalent of The Red Arrows). Guess you've heard about the airplane accident in South Carolina? Although having read a few emails I guess not.
Still loving it - 'altho our return tickets are one day over what the tossy Immigration authorities deem a maximum stay - they said 6 months when we went up to London - so I went 18th April to 18th October. Now anyone with any sense would say ok >> not these plonkers. If we overstay by one day we might never get back and as I'm hoping they'll change the Administration in 2008 it'd be nice to come back.
So how much to amend our tickets? Well we can't 'cos they are non-amendable. New one way tickets? $2,500 for both of us. Two return tickets? $1,750. Go figure.
Fortunately Virgin will take us home for $366 each. So our message to you all is don't use BA - they suck.
We're staying over two nights here which whilst more expensive than our budget is worth it as the place is so nice. Last night we drove thru Panama City Beach - the "Scenic Route" - no kidding that's what the signs said. Well if you like looking at 20-storey high Condominiums then I guess that's right - you couldn't actually see the sea.
However drive on a while to Destin and it's beautiful - we spent 30 mins on the beach and loved it. Then off to the Outlet Mall where we avoided the temptation to spend a FORTUNE on amazing bargains in Timberland, Polo and Bose.
We're addicted to Starbucks and have our "eleven-es" there at 12 noon, then drive on with a plan to find a hotel 3-4pm.
Still enjoying 85F and sunny blue skies - how good is this?
We've decided not to go to New Orleans >> everyone we ask says it's kinda dangerous outside of the six block French Quarter and having read "The Vanities of Bonfires" (go read it) we know what it's like if you get lost.......it's wierd to think that part of USA is now no better than Johansburg.
Anyway soon we'll be north of New Orleans on the Mississipi heading for Tom Sawyer territory. Can't wait.
