Bellagio is said to be the nicest town in all of Italy. We'll I don't think either Carolyn or I would argue the point. Portofino is gorgeous, but there isn't much of a town to stroll through. This morning we caught a 9:25 ferry for a fifteen minute ride to Bellagio. The ferry ride on Lake Como is spectacular in itself. I hope our pictures will do justice to what our eyes beheld.
After stopping for a Panini breakfast we were on our way. The tourist office provided us with a walking tour called Historical Tour & Itinerary of the Central Part of the Town. The walk was supposed to take an hour, but they didn't allow for Carolyn's visit to every and I mean every shop in Bellagio. Our walk did take us past Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni, St. James Basilica, the Town Hall, and Piazza Mazzini which is the heart of Bellagio.
Before leaving Long Island, we had made reservations with Bellagio Water Taxi's for a tour of Lake Como. We passed Tremezzo, Cadenabbia, and viewed magnificent villa's along the lake. The highlight of the tour was Villa del Balbianello, located in the town of Lenno. Acording to our tour guide Luca, it is the most magnificent villa on the lake.
We returned on the opposite side of the lake which completed our 2 1/2 hour tour. Taking a 6pm ferry back to Varenna provided us with excellent lighting for photographs of Varenna as we approached on the lake.
Without a doubt we had our best all around dinner since we arrived in Italy. Not sure if it was the food, or the view of the sun setting over Lake Como, but adding the two together plus a good bottle of wine made for a very rememberable evening. La Vista is located two streets away from our apartment.  The restaurant is located on a hillside overlooking the entire town. Our dinner was served on the outside terrace. Carolyn said "it was the best dinner she ever had in her entire life" .
