Greeting from San Pedro La Laguna, Lake Atitlan!
Jun 05, 2006
Spanish lessons are pretty good thus far and Im amazed by how much ive learnt in the 5 days that Ive been here. I moved in with my host family on Sunday and theyre top quality! Jose and Michaela have been great and very welcoming, the food, company and kids (Lucas and Yulisa) are great and Im pretty happy with it all..but also being in a homestay with a non-english speaking family really makes you have to work on the communication which is exactly what I wanted--Yo aprendo rapido!! Ive met some cool people from Ireland and the UK around town and weve shared a few bevvies and as I said I hope we can get a group together to climb the volcano in a few days. Happy days!
Stay safe and well,
Hello people and again Im hoping that things are good with you all. Just a quick update to let you know whats been happening in Guatemala...I arrived in San Pedro on saturday morning from Guatemala City, about a 2 1/2 hour trip from the city by mini-van. San Pedro is a small town on the shores of Lake Atitlan with an indigenous Mayan population so its pretty cultured, but the lake is amazing, the most beautiful in the world apparently and the comment isnt too far off the mark as the waters are crystal clear and its surrounded by volcanic landscapes, the biggest volcano being Volcan San Pedro (thankfully inactive), which I plan to climb at some stage over the next few weeks...Ill try to avoid those nasty banditos that everyone tells me about! ;) The place is pretty amazing price wise too....San Pedro is one of the cheapest and one of the safest places is Central America and the beer prices arent too bad either as happy hour gets the price down to 3 quetzales (about a shocking 21p!!!) a beer--quality!!!!!
