I arrived late afternoon and found somewhere cheap to stay. Room with an en-suite. After checking in I walked into town to see the night market. I ate some street food, a soup and some spicey meat on a stick. All great, the market mainly consists of sheets spread on the roadsides selling all sorts of things but mainly food and clothes. I was really amazed when went to buy bananas and offered 10 baht (about 20p) for a bunch and the stall holder said, '5 baht'. I haven't found anywhere else in thailand that doesn't imediately try to rip off travellers. Sukhothai has a relaxed feeling that I imagine is how thailand would be if it wasn't full of tourists. Actually, all of thailand is relaxed in that they dont worry about much, the stress comes from worrying about money and being ripped off or the constant pestering asking if I want tuk-tuk/ massage/ suit.
It was so hot that I slept badly and woke up late. That seems to be the patern my body has taken in thailand. Anyway I took the bus to the ruins and took my time wandering around the ruins and visiting the museum and so on. It took me most of the day. The ruins are quite stunning but not even in the league of Siem Reap, not even close. Still some of the statues and buildings are quite intricate and the museam gives information about the artistry involved in the construction and other work going on at te same time in thailand. The setting also helps as each temple is set on an island. So after returning back to the hotel I met some people going the same way as me, two french girls and a japanese guy. So we went together to the bus station. To catch the bus back to bangkok.
