Arrived in Hoi An and walked into town with a nice Northern Irish girl we found a nice hotel to stay in. We walked around the town checking out the market and shops. Hoi An is famous as a producer of silk so I fancied buying some silk off-cuts that I could take home as souveniers and neaten up later. While I was looking I suggested the girl might like to buy a dress we found out that you can buy a tailor made silk dress for 16 dollars. That was enough persuasion. We had dinner sitting out on the street it was a really nice place the food is just cooked there on a stove and you eat outside. Tried some local specialities.

The next day my new friend came into my room to tell me she had found rat droppings in her room and that she was moving hotels. I  said I would come with her (I didnt want to stay alone with the rat!) We found a place nearby but they only had one twin room, we agreed to share to save money. I wanted to go to the beach but unfortunately it was raining. So we went to pick up the dress which was really beautiful and then had fruit shakes in the market. It reminded me of the fruit shakes I had tried in south america. After that the we booked a trip to My Son, a nearby temple site. The rain stopped so we decided to risk going to the beach and apart from a little rain on the way it was actually beautiful and sunny all afternoon. The water was nice and we had a really nice relaxing afternoon. We went back to the same place to have dinner and met a really nice vietnamese girl who spoke english and told us lots of things about people in vietnam and her life there.

During dinner the rain started again. It carried on raining for two days and nights and was still raining when I left, it might still be raining there now. But the next morning we had a tour book so we tried to enjoy it. The rain made that hard. The site is quite interesting it has an influence from Indian architecture and the hindu religion. We took a boat back into town and stopped at a village where they make carved wooden ornaments. After we returned to town and the hotel and sat in the room watching films on the TV and the rain pouring outside. We dashed out for dinner but the rain didnt let up so it was back to the hotel. The next morning I took the bus to Da Nang where I would try to connect to Kon Tum.
