So I arrived in Hue at a respectable time in the morning and was immediately swarmed by guys trying to take me back to their hotel. "Only 10 dollars with a pool". But it was a good sign it meant there were lots of spaces and walked into town with a German lady and we found a nice little place for 4 dollars a night. After showers and things I went with the same lady to the town market and after to have some breakfast.
We then went to see the citadel, the old walled part of town. We took cyclo drivers around and they showed us the few points of interest, some pagodas and ponds and things like this. The dropped us outside the imperial palace and we looked arouns there. All the old buildings were being restored and that means it is harder to understand the history of the place. But, it was quite interesting to see the things inside the building old games and clothes and some text about what it was like in Vietnam in the past.
The next day we went on a boat trip down the river to see some of the tombs of past emperors. I met again the English couple I had met in Hanoi. The tombs themselves were unimpressive but the gardens surrounding them were worth the time. The boat trip itself was also remarkable to see the people who live on the river fishing and trading out of little boats. That night I ate again with the English couple it was exactly 6 months since I left england, the half way point, so we drank to that. The next morning took the bus to Hoi An.
