As usual I spent my first day in the city walking around trying to work out where stuff is, I also spent some time on the internet I managed to find the post office and a road with two docotrs surgeries and a hospital. I was sure I would find an x-ray there. I also left a message for some friends from Sucre that live in cusco to say we should meet up and a message for the people I met in Potosi so that we could meet up when they arrived in Cusco. However, after leaving te internet cafe and having some lunch I walked straight past Savina, a friend from Sucre. She told me where I could find the bar where she worked and said I should come up later. I continued my wondering and found in almost every square in the city there were girls dancing and in the grounds of a church the were about two hundred men skipping. A local man told me they were the military and they were practisig for the inca sun festival and I guessed that all the dancing was equally practise.

So that night I headed up to the bar as per the instructions, ate some thai food like a satay (peanut flavour) and drank some, chatted to my friend who wasn't really working to start with, there was a live band who were quite good, when they finished I asked Savina if it was possible to meet our other friends. She had to carry on working for a bit but she gave me the directions. With some help from a local, I found it with a wedding party in full swing. Everyone was quite drunk and my friend Martha offered me some vodka, big mistake, I was quite ill in the loo. Children dancing

We went on to a club got some dancing in with a local girl met some people I hadn't seen since the begining of my travel, was sick again and then went home.

The next morning I was feeling really rough, I was again woken up by banging and made my way slowly to breakfast and then internet, my group of Potosi friends were going to meet me that night. So I ate a lot to fix the hangover and tried to do my assigned errands, laundry was easy the chica in the hostel took it off my for 9 soles about 1.80 (pounds). Next up was hospital, I managed to find it with some help from a lady with a stall selling pirate DVDs, the clinic was very clean and much faster than the NHS (sorry guys). I got an X-ray and the doctor looked at it and he said "Todo bien.", ´everything is fine´. I was really happy. I went back to the lady with the DVDs and told her and then bought 22 films for 2 pound. I found the post office and bought wrapping paper to do my presents, went into a tourist shop and bought more presents, I got back to the hostel and forgot all about the actual wrapping. Headed out in the evening. Passed a few more squares, more dancing. The guys were all there with some new friends for me to make. We went for a drink and then back to the thai place, my other friends weren't there that night so we headed quickly on to make the most of another happy hour.

The next day I met up with friends after breakfast and we booked a Machu Pichu hike. Spent a bit of time looking around the city, more dancing! Agreed to meet up again that evening. Church 1

So that evening it was more drinks in an english bar, darts playing and all sorts of fun. I said to someone (Michael I think) "you do know you are going on the Machu Pichu trek tomorrow" and the reply was, "so are you!". Which was true!

The trek itself was a lot easier than the three day one from la paz. We had the best guide in the world and all the food was a lot more than edible. The first day was downhill mountain biking and I am sure you will understand when I say I took my time. I was consistantly last. My arm still hurt from my last biking accident and the rough ground making the bike vibrate was not helping. To be honest I was quite scared I didn't like it at all when the bike went too fast and I didn't feel I could stop it if something happened. Two other people in our group fell off and in another group one girl seriously broke her wrist and a guy face planted (Tony Hawk reference) the floor, both looked really nasty. Second day was on the/an inca trail. Quite impressive moutain passes with incredible views. At several points we crossed the river in what I would call baskets on string. Look at the pics (When I finally add them!) at the end of the day it started to rain which cooled off the really hot day and we ended in the most beautiful hot springs ever. Next to the hot water waterfalls fell off the mountains so you could walk under the fall and into the hot water. After that we went into the town and had a night out there, I was chatting with the guide in spanish, feeling proud of myself, more dancing with local girls and general fun had. Church 2

Third day was easy completely flat, along a road then a train track we ended the day in aguas caliaentes (that means hot waters).
The next morning we got up early, and I mean 5 in the morning early, and started the climb up to Machu Pichu. This was by far the hardest walk and it being pitch black didnt help. We got there well before sunrise but there was already a que waiting at the gates. (There is a bus). We started a tour but having done archaeolgy I was well aware that half of the stuff is guesses and they always guess religous. To be honest from an historical point of view Machu Pichu is not that incredible it is only 500 years old which is not that old by european standards. And they have restored most of it which means it is not as it was when they found it. The site (and sight) is beautiful though its like the best views in the country with added ruins. With two amigos I climbed up Machu Pichu mountain (they basically dragged me up the 2 hour climb) and the view was even better and also it was like the biggest tourist attraction in South America with just three of us there. Quite beautiful.

That night we got the train half way back to Cusco, the second half was suposed to be by bus but for some reason three of our names were not on the list and the bus was full. After some negotiations, shouting and getting really worried. I just paid for a taxi and we got back safe. The next day we went into the office to get my money and as soon as the manager got out of bed (about 2.30 in the afternoon) I did get the money. Spent the day watching dancing in the streets and enjoying the food before I got the bus to Puno.

Dios! tengo celosssss
I am incredibly jealous! Hopefully I'll get to go to Peru next year, but this all depends on the dinero, sabes?
It sounds like you had a really great time there, intense bike ride aside. Keep making me jealous with stories of South America!
