8th May to 10th May - A couple of days Brisbane

WE continue to head up the coast of Queensland towards Brisbane making a stop at Surfers Paradise on the way. It was as we had expected there, with high rise hotels and very touristy but the beach was great and we had a nice afternoon lazing on it.

In Brisbane we were lucky enough to stay with the brother, and wife, of Terry, who we met in McClaren with his wife and who we have become great friends with. Dennis and Marilyn very kindly put us up for 2 nights at their home and really treated us with some lovely food (including steak BBQ and bacon and eggs for breaky) plus we had a lush bed in a real bed room!! a bit of a novelty for us.

After arriving and enjoying steak and beer they took us for a 'tourist drive' through the city to Mount Cootha which is a popular lookout point in Brisbane where we got a fantastic view of the city at night.

The next day we had a great day out in the city much of it walking around and hoping on and off the Citycat ferry which gave us a great look at Brisbane. First impressions of Brisbane were that we both really liked it. Then we met Tine and Maya our grape picking friends from McClaren Vale for lunch and a good catch-up. We hadn't seen them for about 5 weeks and we had all been to new places ad seen new things so we had lots to talk about. Then over to the South Bank of the river for a little rest of the man-made beach there which was excellent and we though just a great idea for a city.

A nice meal that evening with Dennis and Marilyn and then a relax in from of the TV, again something we hadn't done for a while.

The next morning we had a look at the nearby Manly Quay, a quick coffee and then back on the road in seach of Steve Irwin!

8ter bis 10ter May in Brisbane
