German at the bottom

Up early to get what was to be a very uncomfortable journey back to Bangkok. We got picked up from our hotel in what to us is a little miny bus, literally on its last legs and packed with backpackers and of course their backpacks. We thought it might take us to a nice/ish coach and then on our way on the 7 hour trip but this was our transport. As Daniel and I were the last to be picked up we ended up on little fold out chairs, of course mine was broken, that sat right through the centre of the bus. We were lucky really as in Cambodia it is not rare to see a pick-truck like car with driver the front and then the back full of people, like cattle all squashed together. This was just crazy to see.

The road from Siem Reap to the border with Thailand (Poipet) was like no other we had ever seen. We had heard from people that it was a bumpy journey but we didn't expect it to be that bad. Its a lot to do with corruption and money as to why this stretch of road has never been fixed (Daniel know more about that) but it was really just a dirt track, full of rocks and holes and incredibly dusty. On the journey you couldn't really read and definately not sleep so we just listened to music trying not to think about it and longing for a bridge (the bridges were wooden so smooth to drive across). Our thoughts about it now 'it was an experience' and no road will ever be as bad as that one.

After the border from Thailand we saw the huge difference between these coutries as a huge air con coach picked us up for the smooth journey to Bangkok. It was like leaving one world and stepping into another.

We both really loved Cambodia, the place, the sites and the people who were just amazing. We both felt a bit more of emotional attachment there than in Vietnam perhaps because the problems that have been there were really so recent and affected so many people, even people that we saw or met there. Also the problems there are far from over and the day-to-day life for so many people is such a stuggle.

Thank you Cambodia! see you again one day.
