Well here it is.....our travel blog for our upcoming round the world trip. This is very much a work in progress and will hopefully evolve and grow as we go around the world.
At the minute we are totally absorbed in moving house. This weekend we move from Norton Disney to my mum and dads who have offered to put us up (or put up with us) until we finally leave at the end of May.
We have pretty much sold everything that we need sell - there are only really the cars and bikes to get rid of. Nic has been busy sorting everything out ready for us to move on Saturday.
I think it is only just starting to dawn on me exactly what we are about to embark upon. We have spoken about and prepared for this trip for so long but I don't think I ever realised what would be involved and how I would feel. I keep flipping between excitement and worry but I think this is to be expected - we are taking a big step into the unknown.
Also I think I have unsettled things even further by wanting to change the trip and how we do it. For the last 6 months or so we have been talking about buying a 12 month ticket that would take us from London => San Francisco => Cook Islands => New Zealand => Australia => S E Asia => India = London. (there would be lots of overland in each of the areas but that was always the rough plan).
However, I have changed my thinking on this route - there is a lot of traveling by plane to go to San Francisco then Cook Islands. I am back favouring the option of flying to somewhere like Finland and making our own way across the 'top' of Europe into Russia then catching the Trans Mongolian Express into Mongolia then making our way through to China and Japan and heading into Australia and New Zealand. Use New Zealand as a turning point then head home through S E Asia and India and maybe Southern Europe. This was our original plan but then we realised there is some security in a 12 month pre booked ticket.
Basically we (I) don't have a clue. The thing that puts me off the second option is access into countries - will we need an ongoing ticket? Answer is normally yes but how easy is it to buy a ticket as proof of an onward journey and then get it refunded?
Anyway, many questions, many decision. still many things to sort out all within a month.
Good news is that we have sold the house, have a moving date, we have bought a flat in Rotherham to rent out while we are away and have had pretty much most of our injections.
I think that is enough for my first blog - probably too long and not very interesting already but I promise it will get better and there will be lots of nice photos to look at.
