After about 4 hours of sleep, we woke up at the rest stop and hit the road around 7:30am. Elliott continued to sleep, of course. We stopped off at a random beach later that morning. This was the first time I'd seen the Pacific since I was about 10 years old and it was gorgeous, huge crashing waves for miles. Then we headed towards Redwood National Forest. However, we ran into a little snafu on the way there. We were running low on gas so we decided to go to the next town before entering Redwoods. Well, apparently, California doesn't update its signs very often. We exited to one town and encountered a closed down gas station. Assuming there was another one further up the road since the sign said there was gas in this town, we ventured on. We even passed a taunting sign that said "Almost there..." as we wound our way up the road. Well we came to the end of the road with no gas station and only a couple miles left in the tank. Luckily, we had just enough gas to cruise our way back out to the highway and on to the next town. It was definitely a close call! After that excitement, we finally made it into Redwood, enjoyed lunch under the shade of the humongous trees, and climbed around on the fallen trees. WE then made our way into Oregon, much to the relief of Jared & Elliott who were more than ready to get out of Cali. We finally settled in at Umpqua Lighthouse State Park just outside of the Oregon Sand Dunes. "Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer."
