With most of our time spent driving the night before we were all a little bit shattered. We returned the camper and got a shuttle back to the airport. We were very lucky and the allowed us to change our flight to an earlier time, they even waived the $75 fee per person thanks to some sneaky work by yours truly. We made it into Vegas on the plane, I was seated on the aisle so I couldn’t see the Grand Canyon, stiffer. I had one of the worst landings ever and my first experience with American Airlines, coincidence? Perhaps! We checked into a lovely hotel the Carriage House and then went to meet Neale and Cameron. I was super excited to see them both and we were met with massive hugs, Neale even straddled me! We went and placed our cheeky first bet like three musketeers, it was hard not be sad that Adam Hort and Phil were not there with us but we made do with the three of us.

We went and hit the Bellagio Buffet, world famous, and for a reason! It was truly amazing, food as far as the eye could see, never-ending coke and all of it tasted amazing. I pilled up my first plate with delicious crab legs, sushi, 3 different types of steamed fish all with there own sauces and a whole bunch of other delicious goodies. As soon as we finished I went and pilled up again, this time my eyes were bigger than my stomach, trying to go for pizza, steak, chicken and turkey. I gave it all I could but I knew that dessert was soon to come. All the little desert looked incredible, some of them were not amazing as they looked but still lovely.

With bellies way too full of food we all departed, Neale and Cam rushed off to see the stage show, Love, about the Beatles, Adam was feeling tired so HT and I went off to explore the town. Unfortunately Holly’s shoes proved to not be cutting the challenge of navigating the strip. Vegas isn’t really conducive to straight point to point walking, there are all these little stairs taking you an extra 100m in the wrong direction before you can actually get on the right track to where you want to go. I walked HT back after we walked about 1km and met up with the boys later on at the Bellagio. There room was looking over the pools and as I was staying there the next day I was super excited with how lovely their room was. We sat around and chatted and caught up. It was really lovely,  I had not seen Neale in such a long time and after 10 minutes chatting it felt just like always, very comfortable around one of my oldest friends.

We all went out to get some cheap booze, 2 litres of southern comfort for $35 US? It was in a plastic bottle, but it still sounded impressive, Cam purchased a carton of beer and we headed back to Bellagio. The funniest part was walking back through the casino with all of these purchases in hand and no one blinking an eyelid. We sat around and chatted for another 2 hours before we hit the town. Unfortunately it was a Monday night and at 2:30am there wasn’t much really going on. We walked past the Cosmo, Aria and then met some young ladies that told us Monte Carlo was the place to be. We ended up on the black jack table and after a quick refresher I was up, Cam was doing extremely well and unfortunately it wasn’t Neales night. By the end of the night cam was up $400, I was up $150 and Neale was down $60. I cashed in at $150 but cam urged me to go harder, I was sceptical and sat out while he kept on going to get to the $400, I was very impressed with his commitment. It was such a great night and afterwards Cam lit his cigar and we all walked out of the Casino at 5am feeling such nostalgia from our younger years all being together. It was all agreed that our first night in Vegas was truly legendary.
