4:45am and we are sitting in the airport terminal; hard to comprehend that for the 4 months I will not get to see Perth or my parents. As sad as this was, the thought of getting on a plane for the next 20 hours was a little more disheartening. However as soon as the first plane took of I knew that this was going to be one of the biggest things I ever do in my life. Holly and I had been planning this trip for a whole year nearly. To see the planning and hard work all finally start to take of is extremely rewarding. I had been working so hard for the last 6 months to earn money for this trip that I felt extremely proud of myself for achieving goals and pushing my boundaries. Our first flight to Sydney was smooth and our connection easy done in under an hour.
The 747 we got into next headed straight to Dallas was a beast. Incredibly smooth most of the way until we hit some heavy turbulence about 8 hours in. Holly didn’t cope so well as the plane bounced around for nearly an hour. The sick bag was out, but thankfully never used. Qantas had an incredible service to Dallas with great food and free alcohol! When we finally arrived in Dallas we were both somewhat exhausted but excited, somehow with the time differences we had arrived in Dallas the same time that we left from Australia. The line to get into America took us around 1 hour to wind through as we walked out and got picked up by Sam. The busboy for the hotel we were staying in. He was very friendly and offered to take us out for dinner later that night. Our hotel was lovely and we literally walked in and fell asleep on the bed for 3 hours.
When we finally awoke we pushed on to dinner, a recommendation from Sam was BBQ – Texas style. We met a lovely couple that showed us the ropes of tipping, what to order and what to do and see next. The food was incredible, Brisket, sausage, Chicken wrapped in Jalapenos stuffed with cheese. Need I add the drinks kept flowing from the machine all night, no charge!!!! We then went home and slept like babies.
