I'm so damn excited about the world cup that nothing can spoil my enthusiasm - nothing. Kieran missing his flight from Beijing? Not a problem. Near death fire inside the campervan from a melting thermos? It's all good. Parking amongst gypsies that wanted to steal all of our worldly possessions? Easy. My telephone getting destroyed by ending up in a lake? Whatever. That's right. Not even this series of fucking ridiculous disasters has dampened my pre-world cup enthusiasm. And how could it? On arrivak in Munich, having met with Snaghingo Jr (Brett) and Her Doktor aka Snags aka Snaginho aka Das Professor (Paul), I tore open my world cup tickets which Paul had brought from Perth, kissed them, did a dance in the airport, jumped and punched the air and shouted 'living the dream'. Similar 'living the dream' air punching has reportedly been witnessed in the city of Ulm and Hagnau, a small town on the shores of Lake Konstanz. One witness reports seeing a dashingly handsome young asian man, having oticed a 30 cent price tag on a 500ml beer (which, incidentally, will be the death of us), take a lengthy run up and then undertake what is now commonly known as the 'Living the Dream Air Punch of the Devil of the Death from Hell. The World Cup Road Trip of the Devil of the Death from Hell has seen many other others: several during the australia victory over liechtenstein, one having had a photo with mark viduka, many having ascended the Ulm Munster (apparently the tallest steeple in the world), and a single Air Punch after each Bratwurst filled bun consumed.

The 'World Cup Road Trip of the Devil of the Death from Hell' has been brilliant. After much deliberation, arguments, jousting and a challenge of muskets at dawn, the name of our much beloved campervan, which will take us throughtout Deutschland on the finest road trip of all time, was decided: Vinny Grella's Mum's Vanny Van Van Van. Shame on those who don't know who Vinny Grella is, but there is always google. This name is, without a doubt, the finest name of all the campervans containing Australians in all of Germany. And let me tell you, there are a bloody heap. And not only campervans, but everywhere. That's right. Well, at least in Ulm, where Australian played Liechtenstein. Enough for us to require each passenger of Vinny Grella's Mum's Vanny Van Van Van to play a 1-2 with a random Australian in Ulmö enough at least for a local Ulm radio station to be out interviewing Australians in the city centre. For the record - yes - I told the radio station that David Bon was the key in attacking midfield, but I was truthful in our 4-5-1 formation.

Following Ulm, we've ended up in Hagnau, a random town on the shores of Lake Konstany, kilometres from Switzerland. Vinny Grella's Mum's Vanny Van Van Vanis parked on the shore in beautifully peaceful surroundinds, blaring out various tunes from Beck, the Sugarbabes, Radiohead and Kanye West. Admittedlz, the lakeside campingplatz in Hagnau is not the youngest crowd that we have ever encountered, but the lovely german retirees have been wonderfully charmed by the combination of our good manners, australian flair, youthful exuberance and Roo, the inflatable Kangaroo. Despite the lack of internet, supermarket, young people and pretty much anything of interest, it has been an ideal place to sit, drink, watch football and catch up with everyone after so long. The World Cup has started and we will be in Kaiserslautern soon. Watc for us on TV - and David Boon.

And so to the Top 5. In accordance with O12(a) of the Rest of the World of the Devil of the Death of Ice Rulels (2006), the 1st entry in a new country must be music based - the heartland of the top 5. Easy. Especially given that this is a road trip. So, the topic is Top 5 'just went sillz songs on the World Cup Road Trip of the Devil of the Death thus far:

5. The Hustle - I don't know who it's by, but you know what I'm talking about.
4. Piano Man - Billy Joel. Silly singalong.
3. California - Phantom Planet. Snags misses the OC.
2. Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond. Living the Dream air punching at its best.
1. Song 2 - Blur. It's the football.

Game 1 - Aus v Japan. Coming soon...

By the way - the internet has been extremely expensive and difficult to find thus far in Germany. Photos will be forthcoming soon - i promise.
