Trying to take advantage of the money changing facilities, I was told that my Scottish money was no good, as it didn't have the Queens head on it... The phrase "red rag to a bull" springs to mind, but never mind - having made my feeling clear, and walked off with my cash I sat and stewed on the boat journey to the resort (Paula managed to get some money out of the ATM luckily!)
Having calmed down, I couldn't help but be amazed by the beauty of the island as a whole, and especially the village / resort that we'd decided to make home for 8 nights. Accommodation was plentiful, and we eventually settled on huts for about £5.00 per nite (I decided at this point that I could happily rough it without air conditioning..
Three nights in and one very hot and bothered Aberdonian decided that we should upgrade to air-con for the grand total of £9.00 per night - heaven!
Paula coped admirably with my "slightly frayed" temper during those few days, probably helped by the fact that I was spending most of the first 3 days learning how to be a deep sea diver (well, working on my PADI Open Water certification!)
Once completed, we took a couple of days to enjoy the island and get some exercise, snorkeling in the bay, before heading out on the last day to complete two dives.
An amazing place, and sad to see the back of it, but by the Saturday, it was time to head back to Singapore for a few nights before finally making our way to Oz!
