Monday morning arrived and although Sophie seemed to be coping very well with the jet lag after arriving on Saturday, she did threaten to fall asleep on the way down - luckily my driving should keep her awake! Heh, heh, heh...

We arrived after just over two hours on the road and made our way around the bypass to have a wee look at Wendy's old house, my old flat in Meadowbank and then with the weather being so stunning, had a quick drive through Duddingston and then stopped to have a climb up Arthur's Seat.

A sunny day though it was, there was a bit of a wind (to say the least!) and by the time we made it to the top were feeling the full force of it - probably not helped by being knackered after the walk up there... Must be getting old or something, eh?

After a much quicker walk (and a bit of a run!) down the hill again, we were off to the hotel via the car park on King Stables Road to have the car safely stored away until Wednesday. The Roxburghe was as stunning as ever, with our room overlooking Rose Street. After freshening up and having a lovely bit of lunch at the Black Rose on Rose Street, we were back in the hotel to relax (read: sleep!) for an hour or so before heading out for dinner - via a couple of pubs of course (Deacon Brodies and Ensisgn Ewarts on the Royal Mile of course!)

I'd booked the Witchery up on the Royal Mile, and the Sectret Garden, service, wine and food were all simply stunning! We were very spoiled but enjoyed every minute of it. Full of good food and wine, we wandered back down the Royal Mile and to the Grass Market for a nightcap and then back to the hotel for some well earned sleep.

Tuesday morning (after a delicious hotel breakfast - full cooked and everything else... The diet starts when I get back to Perth!) we headed up to the Castle and enjoyed the audio tour as we wandered in the sun. The queue to get in was huge, but moved pretty quickly and we were soon enjoying the castle and all its views.

Time flew and it was firing of the 1 o'clock gun before we knew it. I handed Soph the camera to take a quick video of it, and I think if you open it up, you'll get quite a good idea of her reaction as 1 o'clock sounds! :o)

The afternoon had us walking round more of Edinburgh and taking in some shopping before heading back to the hotel and getting ready to meet some of the Edinburgh folk in Whigham's Pub on Charlotte Square. It was just amazing that so many people were able to make it along, with Innes & Claire coming across from Glasgow, Mel (ex Centrilift) coming along for a catch up, Bob, Iain, Morna, Jack, Nick and Lindsay from my various Touch Teams, Neil (fellow alcoholic!) and Paul and Ian from BAE Systems all coming out on a Tuesday night to see me and get a catch up. Thuroughly tired but having had a great night, we headed back to the hotel, almost at the end of our Edinburgh holiday. :o(

Wednesday morning we made it back downstairs for the breakfast (well, it WAS paid for and would be a shame to waste! Heh, heh, heh...) and then packed up the car before taking in a bit more wandering and shopping before heading back to the car and heading out of town.

We did stop briefly at Murrayfield and into the Scotland Shop where I ended up buying some teeshirts and even convinced Soph to let me buy her a Scotland top - very fetching, although I'm not sure how her Aussie mates will take it!

A lovely breack donw in Edinburgh, and back off to Aberdeen to enjoy some more time with Mum and Dad!
