Winter has officially arrived, but after what feels like weeks of cold weather and rain (well, ok, 18 - 22 degrees C and occasionall showers, but come one - this IS Australia!) we've actually got some beautiful weather.
Saturday morning found us slogging through Kings Park towards the DNA Tower as part of out Boot Camp session - I've decided I'm very much over this exercise thing... Perhaps I'm just destined to be unfit and 'cuddly...' Hmmm...
After (just) surviving the exercise it was time to head home and get ready for heading Down South for the holiday weekend to Dunsborough. Sophie and the rest of her gang had already headed there on Friday night so it was a 3 hour trip down the road in the Audi with the I-Pod blasting out to entertain me.
Made it down in excellent timing and had a wee chance to see the centre of Dunsborough and the beach before everyone made it back from lunch at one of the Margaret River Wineries.
We were staying with Sophie's sister Meike, her husband Jack and their wee boy Chris. He's a total star and was very easy to entertain (I seem to interact very easily with kids - could it be that my mental age is something similar?!? Hmmm...)
That evening it was time to head to the house that all Soph's physio friends, husbands and multiple children were staying in. More names, faces and stories that I can remember (as well as all the questions - didn't feel 'too' much like a job interview, honestly!) but they were a great bunch and we had lots of fun with a BBQ and 'beers of the world' evening. I managed to get to the International Beer shop in Perth before heading down, so had Innes & Gunn beers as well as some Belhaven Twisted Thistle - both excellent brews and very well received!

The night flew by and before we knew it everyone was either headint o bed or passing out on the sofas...
Sunday we took a drive and walk around, visiting Cape Naturaliste round the coast from Dunsborough. There are beautiful walks there and vantage points to view the whales from (at the right time of year, which this wasn't!) and a wee lighthouse as well.
We even visited a local art gallery of a bloke called Christian Fletcher who takes the most amasing photographs of the area and further afield. Slightly out of my price range, not to mention outside my skill range, but really great to wander around the rooms and get ideas for shots etc.

After all that exercise we just had to grab some food and refreshments so it was time to hit the Bush Shack Brewery just outside Dunsborough and meet the rest of the gang for a bite to eat. Nacho's and alcoholic ginger beer was the order of the day - excellent!
The afternoon found me drifing off to sleep and Sophie off to take in a run as part of her marathon training regieme. I of course suggested that I could join her as a pace setter and companion, however she declined. (I may actually have looked up sleepily, grunted and rolled over back to sleep - it's difficult to remember!)
After my refreshing sleep, and Sophie's refreshing (I'm sure) run, we have a delicious meal at the house - prepared by Jack and then wandered back to see the others and see how they were all doing.
A few beers and an early night for all, before another relaxing morning on Monday and then my drive back up the road. A really good weekend, not at all stressful at all to meet so many of Soph's friends and family... Honest! :o)
Back in Perth and it was time for Boot Camp (again - seems like just a few minutes ago I was doing that!) Beep Test again and even with niggling injuries, alcohol consumption / sleep deprivation from the weekend I was able to hit 16,0! With my previous best being 15,7 I was really pleased, although it was some time before I was able to do anything after the final lap... Think I may just retire on that time / distance and take it a bit easier next time!
So, that was the holiday weekend, some exercise, lots of alcohol and great food - perfect!
Just a shame it's time to head back in to the office... Mind you, only a two day week and then I'm off to the UK! Excellent!
Tuesday night was Finals for the seasons Touch Rugby. Sadly our Boot Camp team didn't quite make it (we managed the Wooden Spoon position!) but the other team I was playing for (Moto) were in the round for 5th / 6th playoff (out of 13). I turned up a bit early and was poached by one of the other teams to help out as sub in their 3rd / 4th playoff.
I won't bore you all with details (well, ok, I may bore you with details in person!) but two amazing games and two well deserved wins. Even better my body survived (hamstring and calf still in working order) and I managed to score 7 tries along the way.
Tired and admittedly a bit sore I headed home with a big smile on my face, then off to the pub with Dougal for a bit of a catch up over Redback!.
