I'm sad to say the weather control down here seems well and truly broken! After days of cold, cloudy rainy days, we've just been hit by some of the worst weather of the year. Perth got off quite lightly (although there were times that I thought the wind was lifting my roof off!) but down South in Australind was hit by a mini tornado and there was severe damage with houses being destroyed, trees being blown over and cars being lifted and carried up to 20 metres away from where they were left... Mad weather - even for Winter!
In between these bouts of craziness we get the odd day or two of sun and 23 degree heat (like today) which a welcome relief but generally just manages to lull you into a false sense of security before the next bout of storms...
If you hear me complain that the Summer down here is too hot - please feel free to slap me!
Artistic... Maybe?
Artistic... Maybe?
Anyway...
Last night was an impromptu ten pin bowling outing with us (me, Sam, Stu, Lorn, Kev and Stuart) heading to the bowling alley on Adelaide Terrace in the city centre. Needless to say the focus was on comedy bowling styles rather than actual skill but we did manage to rack up a few decent scores along the way. The guys headed off afterwards for more drinks at the Melbourne Hotel (current home-from-home for the Quantx guys) but with it being a 'school night' I bowed out and headed home... Might be getting sensible in my old age... Hmmm...
This weekend is Jason's flat warming and Birthday so a great excuse for a big night out on the Friday... Saturday... Sunday... Oh, my poor body! Speaking of which, seems that all this Chiro is actually making a difference. Have been jogging, swimming and even joined a 'Boot Camp' fitness group with Sam and Jason (Monday and Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings...) which'll hopefully undo all the damage (read weight gain) since I suffered my neck injury.
The flat warming was excellent - just a few of us at Jason's new place (Jas, me, Sam, Stu, Kev, Lorn and Varina) but more than enough to enjoy the BBQ, beers and company... We even got stuck into a fairly serious poker game (one of Jason's Birthday presents) which went from good natured fun to cold hard cash...
The last few hands (at 4am) had Lorn and I battling it out for the pot - tense moments indeed! Somehow I managed to get the last winning hand and walked away with the princely sum of $50.00!
After all that excitement we had to come up with something to keep us going - Sam had brought sparklers, so the lights went off and we became kids again (for a few minutes anyway!) Amazingly there were no injuries or incidents and Jason's flat is still standing.
Sunday was a nice quiet day in preparation for work on Monday - 5 more day until more weekend fun...
