Hmmm... It seems that the World Cup is over! For the last week or so, there's been no mention of the games, winners or incidents. Come to think of it, there's been not a lot said about football since Australia were knocked out of the competition! Now, I wouldn't suggest 'sour grapes' (well, they are best to make a good Auzzie 'Whine!') but the euphoria that gripped the whole nation as the Socceroo's did battle in Germany has faded to apathy, although there was a brief rekindling of good humours as England were knocked out, by penalties, again!

Ah well, we've been keeping ourselves occupied with trips to the pub to watch the rugby games and pretty much ignoring the footie (or should I say, soccer!) - all the tour games are finished, with Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales all taking a bit of a pasting... Signs of improvement from our boys though which bodes well for the Six Nations in 2007 ...David Beckham's resignation...
...David Beckham's resignation...
. We're about to start the Tri Nations tournament down here which is a great reason to head back to the pub and watch Australia, New Zealand and South Africa play silky rugby (a bit like I used to play before the injury... Honest!) - my money's on New Zealand, but we'll just have to see.

Apart from the sporting treats we've been enjoying these past weeks, I've been keeping pretty quiet - still suffering quite a bit with this neck injury - still visiting the Chiro twice a week, although things to seem to be getting better... Slowly...
The weekend of the 24th was the worst when after a great wander around John Forrest National Park up North, Nat and I had to head home with me in serious pain (and being seriously grumpy!) We did manage to have some fun at the park though on a beautiful day - being attacked by Kookaburra's was a bit distressing though... ;o)

In the mean time I've shaken off most of the pain (and grumpiness) and managed to rouse enough energy to help Nat celebrate her 29th Birthday and we went out to the Coolgardie Safe restaurant for a meal on the Friday evening. Fabulous meal there with a couple of bottles of wine (Nat thought we were heading to Hungry Jacks - given it was me that was paying I could understand where she got the idea!)

My kangaroo couldn't have tasted better (poor skippy!) and Nat's Gummy Shark (honestly, that's what it's called!) look really good too ...England team leaves the world cup early...

. The walk home worked off some of the food, but probably not the very, very sweet deserts we had (well, I had!)

Back at work and in between working very hard (of course!) I finally managed to speak to someone at Optus (telepone provider) about my billing - 3 months into a contract for home and mobile phones and no bills... 45 minutes of a call to an Asian call centre trying to sort out why I wasn't on the contract I'd asked for and trying to make myself understood (sure it was nothing to do with my slightly raised Scottish accent!) I gave up and demanded to speak to a supervisor. This actually worked - she apologised for what was 'obviously' the fault of Optus, informed me that all my bills to date would be cancelled with nothing to pay and my new (proper) contract would start on the 1st of July.
Quite a successful result I think you'll agree, although when I told Dougal the story he wasn't so impressed... He's thinking of complaining to Optus because he IS receiving bills, see if he can get something for free... Bless!

Apart from telephone dramas, this week I've been starting to think about my trip home and how great it'll be to see Mum, Dad, Spencer and everyone else back in Aberdeen 1 - Kookaburra sits..
1 - Kookaburra sits..
. It'll be a bit of a flying visit (7 days!) but I'm sure I'll be able to make good use of the time (ie not be in the pub every day!)

Anyway, I hope this hasn't been too much of a ramble, I'll update with my stories from back home and hopefully have some more travel coming up in August that'll keep (make) this more interesting!

The weekend of my flight home came aroudn faster than I would have thought and after somehow managing to sell off the Toyota HiLux in the morning, Sam and I headed to the airport. She was kind enough to offer me a lift and being an Aberdonian, who am I to refuse free transport!?!

A quiet beer at the terminal and then what should have been an easy check in (computer connections between Perth and the rest of the world seemed to be down so I wasn't able to get checked through all the way to Aberdeen!) meant that I was partly relaxed and partly stressed as I made my way to the departure lounge. At least I only had hand luggage with me... Anyway, here we go - 27 hours of travel fun! Wroo hoo!
