This week is the one year anniversary of Wendy passing away. I't been a very tough time being over here and not being able to spend time with Mum and Dad but we've kept in contact as much as we can. It's difficult to remember my journey home last year and even more difficult to believe that it happened a full year ago.
We all miss Wendy so much, and I'm sure everyone who reads this and knew her does too.
Thank you for all the cards, flowers and kind words - they all really mean so much.
I at least have a trip home to look forward to in July to be with Mum and Dad and hopefully see as many other people as well!
It's been difficult to think about anything else this week, but Dougal has tried his best to keep me occupied with calls to the pub and attempts at other distractions..
We've found ourselves surrounded by sport over here, with Australia in the World Cup, England and Ireland rugby teams touring down here and Scotland tours South Africa. Needless to say this has meant we've had to visit a few of the drinking establishments in Perth to see the games. Although Scotland had a tough time against the Springboks (not helped by dodgy English rugby decisions!) we can hold our heads up high and to make sure we were able to smile, the Auzzies managed to put over 30 points past the English, twice... Not that seeing England lose makes up for a Scotland loss... Heh, heh, heh...
Australia are getting on pretty well in the World Cup as well. A win against Japan (and three goals that have been shown more times on the TV here than the moon landing!)followed by a hard fought loss to the Brazilians means that if they can at least draw against Croatia, they'll be through to the next round. The country has gone football (soccer?) mad and they reckon that with workers staying at home to watch / recover from the games will cost over $2billion... All over a sport that no one cared about a year ago... Hmmm...
There has actually been some success on the Scottish rugby front! Our 'A' team travelled to Canada to take part in the Churchill Cup invitational. This yearly rugby tournament included teams from England (The Saxons), Ireland (A), Canada, the USA and the New Zealand Maori's. In the group stages we managed to beat both England and Canada (not bad since our best players were living it up in South Africa at the time!)
Sadly in the final we were sound beaten by the Maori's but still pretty impressive I think you'll agree..
I'd never heard of it until I happened upon it on the BBC website - certainly something to watch out for next year.
Aside from the sporting mayhem and occasional trips to the pub, work continues to take up far too much of my time (bring back the days of world travel!) and my trips to the chiropractor continue almost on a daily basis... At least I'm seeing some improvement in my neck and back - fingers crossed I'll be fixed by the time I head back home!

Beautiful flowers for Wendy...
. Book of remembrance..
. (Mind you England were beaten by Ireland in the 3rd / 4th place play-offs, so that cheered us up!)I'd never heard of it until I happened upon it on the BBC website - certainly something to watch out for next year.
