Day 2 of the Kiwi Experience finds me in Rotorua (again). We travelled south from Whitianga and stopped off for a few pictures on the way.
Arriving at Rotorua, we checked in at Hot Rocks, and the went off for the first gravity powered activity - the Luge. Rotorua has these 3 wheeled luge things that you can brake and steer down 3 different tracks. Its possible to race other people down these tracks, so that what our bus did :-). Unusually for me I managed not to injure myself and failed to crash. I still managed to go fast and have a good time though...
The evening was spent at a Maori Cultural Performance and Hangi - visiting a local village. There was a reconstuction of an original village (pa) and then a concert, followed by a Hangi (traditional Maori food). The evening was enjoyable, but maybe a little too commercial - we were in a group of 250+ tourists.
The next day I was supposed to be on the bus, but I decided to stay an extra day and revisit the awesome MTB trails in the locla forest. I rented a bile from bike vegas (very good btw) and headed out for 4 hours of fun.... The trails are all single track, and theres more than you can ride in a day, all graded and signed. I managed to get most of the way through the ride without problems, until i screwed up a double jump and face planted. I ended up smashing my already knackered shin up on the bars - not good. I finished the ride slowly and took off home to clean myself up of the mud and blood.
