Tupiza is set in the most spectacular rainbow coloured rocky landscape. The area was reputedly the setting for the demise of Butch cassidy and the Sundance Kid in 1908 and we sat and watched the film one evering in the hostel.
To explore the area we set off on a day´s adventure on mountain bikes. The bikes were pretty rubbish especially in comparison to the Kona´s we had had in La Paz but we had fun tearing down the rough roads and taking in the views. From bikes we then changed to horses and rode off down a canyon pretending to be Robert Redford and Paul Newman. Good job they had faster horses than mine who could barely be persuded to break into a trot!
From Tupiza we went on to bush camp near the boarder. We had fun blowing up watermelons with the dynamite that the group had bought from the mines at Potosi. There was nothing left of the watermelon afterwards! The camp was in a beautiful location surrounded by mountains and because there was no artificial light, the stars were amazing.
