After long tiring and expensive taxi journey we reached our hostel in Hollywood. Our first impressions of LA were that it was full of roads and all the blocks looked the same with the obligatory Seven eleven and a Wendy's burger joint on the corner.
We headed down to Santa Monica on our first full day to check out the beach and to do a spot of shopping to make the most of the dollar being weak. It's a good job that LA was our last destination instead of our first because otherwise we'd have spent most of our money in the first couple of days. The highlight of the day was hiring beach cruisers and riding along Venice broadwalk. It had a great fun/carnival atmosphere with lots of crazy people around, from the locals at Muscle beach to the ultra vain LA residents.
The following and our last day was spent checking out Hollywood boulevard and taking in the views of the Hollywood Hills. It's strange area as all the big studios have moved out and seedy shops have moved in along with lots of homeless people but there are still loads of tourists looking for their favorite actors on the pavement. Before we knew it it was time to head on to the airport for our final flight home. We just had time before we caught the airport bus to have lunch in the Mexican quarter near the station. It was hard eating fantastic Mexican food feeling the heat of the sun and not being tempted to skip our flight and hot foot it over to Mexico so as to carry on the dream.
