Jaisalmer is a fantastic fort town right on the edge of the desert. We found a great hotel on the edge of the fort with fantastic views from our room. Had a look around the town and fort palace - all very impressive, but the main reason for our visit to the town was to do a camel safari. We booked a 4 day trek through the hotel and set off early on our second day. The camels were rather large but very gentle. Mark's was called Mr India and was an ex racing camel, so he got thrown about in his seat quite a lot to begin with - especially when we started trotting through the desert.

We stopped at some great sights - including a Jain temple, a deserted town and some awe inspiring sand dunes. The best things about the trip was just chilling out and escaping India mayhem. Sleeping under the stars with just blankets to keep us warm was a great experience even if we were often woken through the night by the noise of camel farting!

Our camel drivers looked after us really well, cooking us 3 great meals a day on an open fire (lunch and dinner were very spicy curries!) and singing and generally entertaining us all the way. They also taught us a bit of Hindi and how to cook desert curries and chapattis. We were aching quite a lot, and were very grubby by the time we returned to Jaisalmer on the fourth day.

Thats no Cammel! it's a Brontasaurus!
Pictures look very cool, particulary like the baby dinosaure, and the one of Mark looking very lost on top of a sand dune!

Have fun!
