Tour of Sukhothai Historical Park.
It was straight forward getting to Sukhothai as it was just an hour away from where we stayed the night before so we made it to the hotel just before 10. The original plan was to hire bikes to explore the Wats (temples) and take our time seeing everything but after seeing the map of the park we would had never been able to see all the sites in one day. Plus it was so hot just walking around (Jade was using her umbrella for shade) we were glad we did a tour by tuk-tuk. Well it wasn't actually a tuk-tuk but moped with cart infront. You did get excellent views of everything in front but we knew if we crashed that would be the end of us haha!!
It took about 5 hours in total with the historical park about 15km from our guest house. We explored many ruined Wats throughout the day; the main ruin Wat Mahathat a collection of Buddha statues and bell-shaped chedis and stupas. Wat Sa Si, a great example of a chedi in the middle of a large moat. Wat Traphang Thong, an active temple on island in a huge pond which houses a huge Buddha footprint moved from Wat Khao Phra Bat Yai (temple with a large 40ft Buddha inside). We will name each Wat on the photos so you know which Wat is....what! The whole area is huge and so well kept, the lawns were mowed, flowers looked after and roads in good shape which made the whole area really nice to explore.
