The train journey.
We took a 7 hour train journey to get from Jakarta to Yogyakarta and what a contrast it was from Indian rail. Actually I would go as far as saying it was better than some English train journeys we've had. Lots of leg room, air con, really comfy seats that extended back almost into a bed haha. We even had a steak lunch with proper plates and cutlery. Obviously the price was much more than India but still only cost us 20 each.

Borobudur, Prambanan and Ramayana ballet ( we have done separate blogs for these)

The hotel.
Yogyakarta is a busy city full of mopeds, horse drawn carriages and cycle rickshaws. After a short walk from the train station we found the main hostel area and stopped in a great hostel. We went for the cheapest room complete with a mandi, or squat toilet to you and me. We also got some form of bath where if your 5ft or taller you can only wash your legs and if your a dwarf you will drown. Also included was a pool! Our first accommodation with a pool! For 4 each a night we can't complain.

Bird market.
With our last afternoon to kill in Yogyakarta we thought we would check out the bird market. We hopped in a cycle rickshaw and found ourselves being rode into head on traffic and straight across busy junctions-needless to say no road rules apply here. We somehow arrived safely to check out the market. First to greet us was a huge python thankfully kept in a cage. We saw every bird imaginable here all kept in relatively good conditions (better than what we expected anyway). We saw some cool hermit crabs that had been hand painted and you could buy houses for them, pretty random. Afterwards we took another cycle rickshaw and stopped off at a batik artwork shop to buy some cool cheap wall art and made our way home.
