After arriving back near San Jose, we have spent a few days chilling out and actually staying in the same place for 4 nights. Previous to that we moved continuously for 10 days on the trot. Orosi is a pleasant town, near a huge mountain range that divides the country and extends into Panama. Many rivers flow from the range to the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. It was one which flowed to the later which we chose for our first White Water Rafting experience. After an hourīs trip into the mountains to a suitable place to put in, we donned our helmets and life jackets for this exhilarating ride. I assured Emma that it would be quite easy and safe and she obviously believed me or I wouldnīt have got her into the boat!

1 Looking Nervous...
. Our guide taught us all we needed to know on the smaller grade I & II rapids so that we were after an hour of paddling ready for the grade IVīs. One of the girls was as useful as a chocolate teapot but the rest of us got on with it and paddled together. The ride down the biggest rapids was exhilarating as well as pretty scarry at times. There was a wager: the first one in buys all the beers... Iīm feeling rather poor at the moment! I came a cropper on one of the big rapids and launched myself out of the boat, up in the air but managed to hold onto the outside of the boat and was swiftly hauled in, all intact apart from pride. Through the quieter stretches we jumped out of the boat and floated down, under waterfalls or gazing at the sky. We passed through a peaceful gorge, hardly 10m wide. We were accompanied by parrots, toucans and vultures overhead and in the river, paranas taking a nibble at your legs but they werenīt very hungry! Lunch was enjoyed beside the river with a smorgasbord of locals foods...

I think weīre going to sleep well tonight, quite a tough day!
